Google Docs

            Google Docs is an app of word processor that allows you to save documents on an online drive so there is no need for a flash drive if you have this. You are able to save up to 15 GB of information onto one account. You are able to upload other documents from other word processors such as word. You are able to share a document with others to work on a project or an essay on it.

            Google Docs is a very useful tool for businesses because they are able to share documents with other employees and or co-workers to work on a project together and they won’t have to pay for a word processor like word or publisher to do their work. Co-Workers are able to collaborate with each other without being in the same building they can both be at home add on too the same document and also correct and delete wrong information that their co-workers have put into the document. Businesses can use Google docs to create a document and make a business code of ethics that all employees have to abide by and instead of putting it all around the work place they can just share that same document with all the different employees that work there. For businesses such as schools it is a useful tool for creating templates for the students to use and make it easier to keep track of all of the students’ progress by having them all share their work with the teacher. Office Business such as a lawyer firm or any other office business they are able to just have all of their employees to sign up for a Google docs account so that they do not have to pay for word for everyone to use. The upside to that is if they share it with the boss the boss would then be able to see the constant progress they are doing so they would not be able to slack off.

            Google Docs can be used for a social media purpose. When collaborating on a project they can use the chat feature in the side margin so they can constantly talk to one another. But it can be bad for social media because there is no censoring in Google Docs and people can abuse it to verbally abuse and cyber bully others.

            On Google Docs you can share videos and photos with your friends to make them laugh while working on projects. Google Docs can be a bad source of entertainment because the videos and and pictures you put up on Google Docs to share with others you will never know if they plan to put it up on the internet and then it will never be able to be taken of the internet.

Google Docs cannot really be used for the purpose of getting news really, beside the fact that you are able to talk to another person with the chat feature when collaborating on a project and they can tell you what has been going on. Over all Google Docs is an over all good word processor and a useful tool for both businesses and education but not really social media because the negatives are just about the same as the positives.

                The function of Facebook is to give the people of the world the ability to share information and make the social world more open and connected. Facebook is almost used as an experiment to see what the actual differences are between disparate groups. Facebook is meant to allow other people to become more involved in their lives and see what is going on with them and vice versa and is supposed to allow people to have control over their own information and allow certain people to see it and certain people to not according to Facebook’s statement of principles.

                Facebook can be used for businesses for many different ways. Business opportunities are expansive in the social media world, especially in Facebook. Third party business can produce revenue because they can put a demo of their game into Facebook for all users to play for free with their friends and if they like it they can buy it to play on their smartphones or just have it for their computers. Facebook itself is a business and they benefit from the third party businesses by making those companies pay a fee to be allowed to put their games on the site. Facebook is also a place where businesses can put a page of their businesses up on Facebook for all of its users to see and the users can like the page and now not only will it expose their business to the nation and even the world they can see what the demographics are where their business would be most profitable and they would be able to see what kinds of people they should target the products of their business around.

                Facebook is most notable for being a SOCIAL media website. Emphasis on the social because that is what a big part of this company is about, giving the users the ability to post what is going on in their lives and see what their friends are doing or have done like over the weekend. Facebook is also a very useful tool for getting back in contact with old friends that you may have went to high school with or friends in your old neighborhood or those who have moved away and you want to keep in touch more than the occasional phone call now and again. You are able to see what they do and you can also chat with your friends if you are both online at the same time and if they are not you can leave them a message and wait to receive a message back.

                Entertainment is a part of what Facebook can do for you, you can watch funny videos that users have posted or pages you have liked and you can go on now and again if you are at home bored and you can see what is going on maybe you see that there is a party that you can go to or see if someone wants to chat if they are on.

                Facebook can provide you with news if you have liked certain pages like the news channel page or you can get updates on players in sports that you follow or teams that you follow or even your own personal high school team by following the MSG Varsity page on the site.

                Facebook can be used for setting up recreational activities or events or if you find yourself bored and have nothing else to do you can start to play all of the different games on Facebook because there are plenty of them.

        LinkedIn is a huge social networking platform like Facebook but is for professionals. Such professionals can be students in college that are trying to figure things out for their education and it is also for business opportunities. What Facebook lacks that LinkedIn has is that Facebook is not easy to find people because it is all over the place demographically while LinkedIn enables you to access and amazing search tool that allows you to find the person you are looking for but it also depends on how many specific factors there are for that person.

        This site is mainly for professionals therefore it is a great tool for businesses and for finding out different jobs. LinkedIn gives you the reassurance that there are so many jobs out there that you are bound to get one if you know where to start. LinkedIn is a site that you are able to find people and give or receive advice for job interviews, finding jobs, figuring out what jobs are good for you and it also helps you even if you have a job to make yourself more efficient at that job or finding out ways to find a solution to problems that you come in contact with while at the workplace doing your job.

        Although LinkedIn may be known as a professional style social media website that is for businesses and business opportunities and advice for getting jobs and making you better at your job, it still is also a social media website that allows you to reconnect with your classmates for college. LinkedIn may be seen as an inferior social media website then that of facebook but LinkedIn facilitates the ability to reconnect with people because its search tool targets and finds the person that matches the description that they have inputed into the networking site where as for facebooks demographics is so out of whack that it proves difficult to find old classmates or old friends that you would like to reconnect with.

LinkedIn Is not used for recreational nor is it used for entertainment purposes it is used for the sole purpose of reconnecting with old friends and old classmates that you have had in college and people that you would like to meet and share and get business tips from on how to get jobs and how to make yourself better at the job you currently have.

The downside however is that it can be abused because people could find and sell personal and business information about others just by looking up the different people on the social media website and the website can’t get in trouble for that because it is not them, the first party, but it is the third party which are other businesses or other users of this social media website.

                Twitter is a social networking site that is designed so that the owner of the account can post what they are feeling of what is going on in their life. But Twitter can be used for business and not just personal events. It is a networking tool that allows businesses to promote their products and or services and can allow people to just let the public know what is going on in their day.

                Twitter provides businesses opportunities to get their business itself out to the public or new products or services that they want the public to start getting interested in. Businesses also take these opportunities to offer discounts or deals for their products so that they will go and order products from their company online or come to the store. There is a function on twitter called re-tweeting which allows users that see a post that is interesting to repost it on their account so their followers can also see it. This is an advantage to businesses because if the first person who sees it finds the offer or product interesting they can re-tweet it and then their followers will see the promotion and the company will get more business therefore receiving more revenue. Twitter makes it more convenient for both the business itself and the consumer because it allows the consumer to get in direct contact with the company without having to go to the store and finding out information through customer service or having to call up customer service.

                The positives to Twitter on a social aspect is that you are able to let your friends or family know what you are doing currently, where you just were, or what events are happening in your future. If you are a sports player Twitter can allow you to inform your class mates when your games are to come down and support your team and if they miss the game you can let them know who won and what the score was and who were the key players of the game were. Twitter also has photo-sharing services as TwitPic to allow the user to share photos with their friends so they can see not just know what you are doing.

                Twitter can also be entertaining to the user. If a user of twitter is bored they can look at all the tweets that have been posted in the past few hours by the people they are following because a lot of the time there will be posts that will be hilarious and make them laugh. They can also use twitter to tweet their followers or the people they are following funny things to make them laugh or try to make them respond to the tweet.

                Twitter is can be a good source for news because you can follow the page for an actual news crew and find out what is going on without watching the news or you can get the weather and if you are a sports fan and want to know what is going on with a team or a specific player that you follow.

                Twitter is a recreational social media because it can be used to notify people of recreational events that are coming up and for the same reasons in the entertaining sections that you can tweet your friends and see the tweets that your friends make.
